Am I the Employer of My Cleaner?

Learn how the working relationship is structured when you place a booking through Helpling and what this means for you.

Written by Milan Geerling

When you arrange cleaning through Helpling, you are booking the services of self-employed service providers. This means you do not become their employer.

👤 How does the relationship work?

Helpling operates as a marketplace connecting customers with independent service providers.

Service providers work on a self-employed basis and decide which booking requests they would like to accept.

When a provider accepts your request, they perform the service as an independent professional rather than as your employee.

📄 Do I need to register a Minijob?

No. The Minijob and Haushaltsscheck registration process applies when a private household employs someone directly.

Service providers booked through Helpling are self-employed, so you do not need to register them with the Minijob-Zentrale or manage employment-related paperwork.

💳 Who provides the service and invoice?

Your service provider performs the cleaning and acts as the biller for the completed appointment.

Helpling provides the platform through which the booking, communication, and payment process are managed.

💡 Good to know

Booking a self-employed service provider is different from directly employing someone in your household.

You are responsible for providing accurate booking details and arranging access to your home, but you do not take on the responsibilities of an employer.
